‘EcoCats’ was born from the efforts of a visionary group of professional boat construction experts who are truly passionate about sailing, and whose ambition has been to bring together advanced technology, ecology, attractive design and sailing efficiency into one single sailing boat at a reasonable price with the added benefit of personalisation.
The main technology has been obtained thanks to the development work carried out by ‘Motores Ecológicos’ involving a meticulous worldwide search of the most advanced technologies, and close co-operation with a number of companies, across four separate continents, in the area of research & development, in order to install the best available technology in the fleet.
The ecological delivery, which is closely linked to the technological one, has been achieved via promoting a number of key elements: 1) the installation of electrical propulsion on board and efficient energy saving systems, both for the general consumption and for the generation of electricity on board, 2) very advanced systems for the treatment of waste, 3) the treatment and purification of water which has been designed to avoid the large deposit tanks or the need for bottled water and 4) the optimisation of lighter construction materials designed to create lighter vehicles which are easier to propel.
The attractive design coupled with the excellent sailing performance is the result of a close collaboration of EcoCats’ team with the Australian boat designer, Craig Schionning and his design team, Spirited Designs, who took on the challenge of adapting their current and future launch designs to the new global concept. From the very beginning, EcoCats and Craig became a passionate advocate of the idea, therefore the only amendments required were technological and design changes needed to adapt to European technology and tastes.
The excellent sailing performance has been confirmed by all those who have sailed the cat, professionals as well as amateurs, and this can be seen through a home made video recorded in Australia, and in the tests carried out by the sailing press, reaching maximum speeds of 20 knots recorded in the GPS which surpass real winds of 16 knots. In our catamarans with sail, the engine truly plays an auxiliary role and it would not be used a great deal. Anyone interested in testing out the boat and its performance, whether a professional or an amateurs, can do so at a series of ‘tests’ which will be taking place along the Spanish coast (details of which will be notified in plenty of time to all those interested in taking part).
The reasonable pricing levels have been achieved by incorporating very advanced construction techniques such as the ‘digital cut of the composite panels’ or the manufacturing of the hulls through vacuum infusion. In addition, this construction system allows for a high degree of ‘adaptation’ to the tastes of the clients (such as the colour of the hull, the type of kitchen, the upholstery, or foam mattresses of high density foam.
With the same features, a new 40 feet sailing cat is being designed, also with very high sailing performance, but focussed more on cruising than racing. It will be available as owner version or charter one, and its cockpit will allow you to enjoy the cockpit a lot when anchored.
The boat will satisfy the needs of even the most demanding sailor.
